Last week the case against the guy who punched me in the face finally came to a close. The judge, sick and tired of all the delays, offered a plea bargain. It was called a "sixty day split." The defendant spends sixty days in prison, then spends twelve weeks (not in custody) in a program to deal with his mental issues, and then is on probation for three years.
It's not exactly the ending you'd expect in a made-for-TV movie, but it's good news nonetheless. The guy is certainly going to break the law again, and when he does so, he'll be put away for a lot longer than I could have hoped for with my case alone.
The down side to the arrangement, however, is that he's already served more than sixty days while waiting for his trial, so that means he's back on the streets right now. Yikes.
